Just a quick update to let you know that this is a big week. Tonight I completed my first training run for 2020’s London Marathon. I’ve managed to win a ballot place this time and I’m aiming to beat my 2016 time which was impacted due to getting injured over half way around the route.

I was surprised as I hadn’t run once since I completed the 2016 marathon, but managed to complete a 5k run this evening, albeit a bit slower than I normally am, but that’s to be expected.

The stadium tour continues this week with Stadium 29. We’re visiting Stoke City for the Stoke vs Derby County match on Wednesday 28th November. More stadiums visits being planned as I type.

Thanks again for your continued support.

Paul

Stadium 27 https://www.clubfootballtour.com/stadium-27/ https://www.clubfootballtour.com/stadium-27/#respond Thu, 02 Aug 2018 17:31:24 +0000 https://www.clubfootballtour.com/?p=1235 The new season is upon us, the teams are ready, more importantly the stadiums are ready.

We’ve managed to add a few extra stadiums during the close season, but we’ve been waiting for now.

Friday August 3rd sees Derby travelling to Reading’s Madejski Stadium for the opening game of the 2018/19 EFL Championship season. It also brings us to Stadium 27. Both Will and myself will be heading down to Reading to watch the season opener with newly installed Frank Lampard as manager, hoping for that little extra push to get us over the line and into the promised land.

More importantly it gets the stadium challenge back up and running. Stadium visits are much easier to organise when the stadiums are open for business. So we’ll get cracking with our visits again, starting on Friday.

Pre season, more stadiums to visit https://www.clubfootballtour.com/pre-season-more-stadiums-to-visit/ https://www.clubfootballtour.com/pre-season-more-stadiums-to-visit/#respond Sat, 30 Jun 2018 19:41:09 +0000 https://www.clubfootballtour.com/?p=1224 Pre season is now started, friendlies have been arranged and we can get back on to some more official visits. This time last year is where it all started when we visited Doncaster Rovers and Northampton Town for Derby’s pre season friendlies at the start of the 2017/18 season.

This year Derby are visiting Notts County, Coventry City and Mansfield Town. Frustratingly we’ve already visited Notts County. The Coventry City friendly is being played at Nuneaton Town’s rugby ground. This leaves Field Mill for Mansfield Town, which is actually the closest stadium to us.

So, after managing to sneak in a quick visit to Walsall for Stadium 25, Stadium 26 will be Mansfield Town’s Field Mill in the middle of July.

Derby County’s season starts away at Reading, so Stadium 27 is looking very likely to be the Madejski Stadium as I’ve booked the day off work so we can go down to watch the season start in earnest.

World Clubfoot Day 2018 https://www.clubfootballtour.com/world-clubfoot-day-2018-2/ https://www.clubfootballtour.com/world-clubfoot-day-2018-2/#respond Sat, 26 May 2018 19:05:07 +0000 https://www.clubfootballtour.com/?p=1206

For the second year running World Clubfoot Day was celebrated by a day of football at Chelsea’s magnificent training ground at Cobham. A place where all the big starts such as Frank Lampard, Didier Drogba, Eden Hazard et all spend their days practicing and training to star in the English Premier League.

This year however it was part of Chelsea Foundation’s inaugraul Disability Showcase event.

It was a fantastic day where Will could meet up and play football with children who have the same or similar conditions, and for us as parents to meet and talk and share experiences. With great surroundings, and lovely sunshine, the children all loved it and were treated to some great coaching and all received a lovely medal at the end of the day.

This always turns out to be a lovely day which the children love. We tend to turn this into a long weekend, which we did by spending the following day in Brighton and returned via Cambridge. Which helped us add a few more stadium visits.

Team Mascot for Derby County https://www.clubfootballtour.com/team-mascot-for-derby-county/ https://www.clubfootballtour.com/team-mascot-for-derby-county/#respond Thu, 03 May 2018 11:50:38 +0000 http://www.clubfootballtour.com/?p=1174

This Sunday we will reach the end of the football season in the English Football League. For some it will continue into the Play Off fixtures, but for the majority the season ends this weekend. Our quest will continue to visit as many grounds as possible during the off season.

Will has been given the great opportunity to be the mascot for our 21st official stadium visit (and the team we support), Derby County. To say he’s excited is an understatement. He will get the opportunity to take a tour round the stadium. Meet the players in the changing room before the match, have a kick around on the pitch before leading the teams out at the start of the match. It’s an amazing opportunity, and one we have to thank our friend Sam Hudd for setting this up, and everyone at Derby County too for giving Will this chance.

We will obviously be putting a video together for this. There are certain areas we can’t video, but where we are allowed we will so hopefully it will be a great day. And if Derby win, they will go into the playoffs, with the opportunity to maybe visit Stadium 22.

New name, same challenge https://www.clubfootballtour.com/new-name-same-challenge/ https://www.clubfootballtour.com/new-name-same-challenge/#respond Mon, 23 Apr 2018 20:49:54 +0000 http://www.clubfootballtour.com/?p=1166 You may have noticed a few tweaks to the website. Yes, we’re now running on www.clubfootballtour.com. We’ve changed our name from Year of Clubfootball to ClubFootball Tour. Maybe a year was a bit too ambitious for us to get every stadium visited. We’ve had a lot of delays this year, one big one with Clair being quite unwell and having to have an operation and subsequent return to hospital for complications. So all in all it’s unlikely we’re going to get to all grounds in the one year.

That said, we’re not deterred, yes it may take a little longer than we originally anticipated, but not too much longer. We’re cracking on with organising our next visits. I’m hoping also to get some exciting news this week to share.

So yes, it’s a new name, but it’s the same old Pounder family, going around the country, visiting stadiums and raising awareness for STEPS and Clubfoot.
